Stanford University has had a strong residential character, providing desirable on-campus housing to students in close proximity to academic resources. Through an active residence program, Stanford seeks to provide graduate students with a supportive, friendly environment in which they are encouraged to develop a strong sense of community. Students are strongly encouraged to apply for campus housing. Students who wish to live off-campus usually live in the surrounding areas such as Palo Alto, Mountain View, Menlo Park, and Redwood City. Some live as far north as San Francisco or as far south as San Jose. Students who live off-campus should prepare to purchase a campus parking permit or take public transportation; the on-campus housing becomes a great convenience.
Go to Sudent Housing website for more information about the eligibility criteria, deadlines to apply for summer and academic year housing, housing policies and options, and to submit your housing application at http://studenthousing.stanford.edu.
STEP students must submit two applications for both summer housing and the academic year. See key dates and deadlines for the two applications below.
Non-STEP students only need to submit one application for the academic year.
Crucial hints for STEP students applying for summer housing:
- choose the 10-week assignment (rather than 8-week)
- select Interim Housing (for the period between summer and autumn quarter)
- If you want to live on campus all year long, you must submit two applications. One for summer quarter and one for Autumn through Spring Quarters of the 2009-2010 academic year.
Also, the hints below apply to you if you are interested in Autumn through Spring housing.
- Check "Assign
me to any residence for which I am eligible"to ensure
that you will receive a housing assignment. You may be placed
on a wait list if you do not accept the first offer.
- Apply by the deadline to enter the Graduate Housing Lottery. You may be placed on a wait list if you do not apply by the deadline.
A special note for summer start students who wish to
maintain continuous occupancy in the same residence for summer
and autumn-spring: Housing Assignments makes every
effort to match your summer assignment with your autumn-spring
assignment. But you MUST follow the above instructions
(in particular you must indicate that you will accept any
residence for which you are eligible) to be sure your applications
are processed accordingly. If you have any questions
or concerns about ensuring that you will not have to move
to a different campus residence at the end of summer quarter,
contact Housing Assignments. |
