Stanford University is a full-time institution. Students enroll full time for the duration of their program.  In MA programs, full time enrollment at SUSE is 11-18 units per quarter unless program is specifically structured otherwise.

In PhD programs, full time enrollment is 11-18 units per quarter in the first year, followed by 8-10 units per quarter in every year after that until the student completes the coursework and all degree requirements but the dissertation when a special zero-unit registration status may be approved (usually at the end of the fourth year).

All MA programs at SUSE are one-year (three or four quarters) long. Students are required to have successfully completed a minimum of 45 units at Stanford in order to confer the Master of Arts in Education degree.  (Please note the ICE/IEAPA program requires completion of 48 units.)

Generally,  most classes are held Monday through Friday between 8AM and 5PM, Some classes are held later in the day until 9PM  Some programs, such as STEP, require student teaching that is completed concurrently with taking Stanford courses.  Check the Stanford Bulletin for course descriptions.

More information about the MA programs is posted on program websites for POLS, ICE/IEAPA, LDT, STEP-Secondary and STEP-Elementary. Students may also look up the information on the Master's Degree Handbook, or Doctoral Degree Handbook which cover University policy and guidelines for completion of the degree as well as program-specific requirements, including listings of required courses and popular electives.  You will receive your 2009-2010 Degree Handbook when you start the program in September.

STEP admits may also want to consult the STEP Handbook, which as detailed information and forms related to the Summer School Program, clinical work (student teaching), etc. You will receive a hard-copy of both handbooks when you start your program.
