FAQs
When do I register for my summer classes?
We will send out an email towards the end of April that will explain how you can enroll in and register for your first quarter of classes at SUSE.
When is the first day of classes?
June 22, 2009 is the first of classes in STEP for the admitted
2009-2010 cohort.
I want to live on campus while in STEP. What do I
do?
Go the Housing Assignment Services website and apply for
graduate student housing. STEP admits must apply for Summer
2008-2009 housing AND for Autum-Winter-Spring
2009-2010. Check the Housing section of this right (click
on Housing
on the menu on the left) for hints on the housing application
for STEP students. Housing applications deadlines are in early
May. Check the Housing Assignment Services
website for rent rates, deadlines and to apply.
Is there an option for me to complete the CSET anytime
after the March 14th testing date?
One half of the CSET subtests for your subject area must
be completed and passed before the program begins. You should
not plan to take the test in May because test results will
not reach us before the program begins in June. This means
that March 14, 2009 is your last testing cycle to complete
this requirement.
If I have not yet completed the CBEST when can I
take it and where do I find more information about this test?
You can complete the CBEST exam during your first quarter
of STEP – this summer. And we certainly encourage you
to complete the test as early as possible. There is a test
on April 10, 2009 and another one in June before the program
begins. For more information about test dates and test sites
you can visit the following page: http://www.cbest.nesinc.com/
If I do not live in California how can I apply for
the tuition credit to help with my airfare to take the CSET
exam on March 14, 2009?
The tuition credit will be applied to your first tuition
bill, depending on financial need as determined in your financial
aid application, during the summer quarter. To submit a request
for this tuition fellowship, please follow these steps:
1. Register for CSET on March 14 and send proof of your registration
to info@suse.stanford.edu
2. Complete your FAFSA form for both 2008-09 and 2009-10 academic
years and submit your Stanford Graduate Financial Aid Application-STEP.
3. Send your request by email to Dan Rhoads, info@suse.stanford.edu.
What topics will be covered during Admit Day and
what time should I plan to be on campus?
Admit Day starts at 9 a.m. with check-in in CERAS (please
refer to the email you received from Academic Services with
details). The day ends with an optional campus tour from 4
to 5 p.m. There will be coffee and rolls in the morning, and
lunch with STEP faculty, teacher candidates, instructors and
alumni. The day will have sessions about the STEP curriculum,
financial aid and the credentialing requirements. You are
strongly encouraged to plan to be there the whole day, at
least until 4 o'clock.
Where should I stay if I’m coming from out
of town for Admit Day and how do I get from my hotel to campus?
For details on visiting the campus for the first time you
can review the information found on this page: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/visitorinfo/.
Will I have a break between summer and fall quarter?
Although the Academic Calendar for Stanford University shows
that Fall Quarter begins in late September, you should not
plan on having a long break between Summer Quarter and the
start of your student teaching placement. Some teaching placements
occur in schools that begin as early as August 12 and most
begin during the week of Aug 17 or Aug 25. You should therefore
plan to stay in the area after Summer Quarter ends.
