Haas Center for Public Service
"While the instruction offered must be such as will qualify the students for personal success and direct usefulness in life, they should understand that it is offered in the hope and trust that they will become thereby of greater service to the public."
-Jane Lathrop Stanford, Founding Grant, 1901
The Haas Center connects academic study with public service in order to strengthen communities and develop effective public leaders. This is done through programming around fellowships, courses, research, community programs and student leadership. In recent years, the Haas Center has forged a stronger partnership with the Stanford School of Education through faculty involvement in course development, program design and related research with the Center's youth and education programs. SUSE faculty are also involved in the growth of the student public service leadership program, and SUSE students are encouraged to become involved in Haas Center community-based educational work.
The Haas Center website contains Issues & Opportunities and a special site For Graduate Students where you will find ideas about how to get involved with communities, serve agencies and organizations, find projects related to your field, and connect with other students on specific issues of interest.
