Stanford Charter Schools

The School of Education’s two public charter schools in the Ravenswood City School District of East Palo Alto, CA serve as the ultimate accountability for all of our work and are the most significant manifestation of the School of Education’s commitment to bridging research and practice. The mission of the schools is to use knowledge about best practices based on our research to provide a seamless, high-quality pre K-12 educational experience for students living in an underserved community, to develop and share innovative practices with teachers and administrators nationwide, and to help us prepare teachers in settings that most need high-quality teachers.

Our charter schools include East Palo Alto Academy: High School, a school of 300 students, which opened in 2001, and East Palo Alto Academy: Elementary School, which opened in 2006. The schools will serve at least 750 students by 2010. The School of Education oversees these two charter schools through the auspices of the Stanford New Schools. Our goal is that every child who comes into our elementary school will be proficient in literacy and mathematics by the end of third grade. Similarly, eighth grade graduates will be readied for a rigorous high school program and planning for college. Our high school is designed to ensure that students are prepared for college and for the 21st century world and workplace.
