East Palo Alto Academy

East Palo Alto Academy (EPAA) is the K-12 charter school overseen by the School of Education under the auspices of Stanford New Schools. Based in the Ravenswood City School District of East Palo Alto, EPAA serves as the ultimate accountability for all of our work and is the most significant manifestation of the School of Education’s commitment to bridging research and practice. We are applying our expertise in research and practice to provide a seamless, high-quality K-12 education to students in a disadvantaged community and giving them the tools to succeed. We are training teachers and educational leaders for settings where they are most needed. And we are developing and assessing innovative practices to share with educators around the country.

East Palo Alto Academy consists of East Palo Alto Academy: High School, which enrolls approximately a 300 students and will graduate its fifth class in 2009, and East Palo Alto Academy: Elementary School, which opened in 2006 with three inaugural grades and will expand each year to eventually enroll students in all grade levels from kindergarten through eighth grade. By 2010, East Palo Alto Academy will serve at least 750 students. Our goal is that every child who comes into our elementary school will be proficient in literacy and mathematics by the end of third grade. Similarly, eighth grade graduates will be readied for a rigorous high school program and college planning. Our high school is designed to ensure that students are prepared for college and for the 21st century world and workplace.
