(A new effort supported by the Initiative on Improving K-12 Education)

Summary

We seek a founding Executive Director with strong organizational skills and an entrepreneurial spirit to provide leadership for a new Center for Education Policy Analysis at Stanford University - CEPA. The purpose of CEPA is to train the next generation of education policy researchers; to answer critical education policy questions that are directly relevant to federal, state and local decision makers; to develop new methodologies and instruments for conducting education policy research; and to translate evidence into meaningful school improvement. The Executive Director of CEPA will be responsible for representing the activities of CEPA both within and outside of the University, as well as for the overall coordination, execution, and ongoing management of the center.

The Executive Director will work with CEPA's Faculty Directors and Advisory Board to oversee doctoral and post-doctoral training for students from across the University focusing on education policy. This work will include facilitating and monitoring training and research opportunities. As an example, the Director will be responsible for a weekly seminar that brings education policy researchers to Stanford to present and discuss their work.

CEPA will support education policy research at Stanford. As part of this, the Executive Director will be responsible for the development of data research infrastructure. This work will include identifying and collecting relevant data, as well as overseeing the appropriate handling of the data. It will also involve building partnerships with educational institutions such as districts and state departments of education, in order to improve research capabilities at CEPA.

The Executive Director will be responsible for outreach and dissemination to maximize the positive effects of Stanford's education policy research on education decision making. The Executive Director will develop a strategy utilizing electronic media, publications, seminars, informal gatherings and other means to meet these goals.

The Executive Director will assume responsibility for recruiting, hiring, and supervising staff to support the logistical elements of CEPA. The Executive Director also will be responsible for the financial management and oversight of the center. This responsibility will include writing grant proposals and periodically working with the Director of Development and/or other Stanford fundraisers for the purposes of securing gifts to support the work of CEPA. On an ongoing basis, the Executive Director will work with Center's Faculty Directors and Advisory Board to monitor and evaluate the impact of CEPA and choose productive directions for CEPA.

Depending on the candidate's record of scholarship and professional experiences, a non-tenure-line faculty position at Stanford could be considered as part of this appointment.
