The School of Education seeks nominations and applications for a tenure-line, open-rank faculty position in the multidisciplinary area of learning sciences and technology design. Disciplinary backgrounds of candidates may include psychology, computer science, sociology, engineering, anthropology, one of the sciences, or one of the subject areas such as history, or mathematics. We are particularly interested in candidates who focus on improving learning and teaching in one or more subject matter domains by incorporating advances in computing and communication technologies. Ideally, the candidate’s work would leverage state-of-the-art design approaches and research methodologies.

Candidates should have completed an earned doctorate before the date of appointment and show evidence of outstanding potential for research and teaching. The successful candidate will teach and advise doctoral students in the Learning Sciences and Technology Design program (LSTD) and the master’s students in the Learning Design and Technology (LDT) program. Candidates should have an eagerness to participate in the planning and direction of the LSTD and LDT programs, and the affiliated Stanford Center for Innovations in Learning (SCIL).
Stanford University provides a fertile environment for research and teaching in Learning Sciences and Technology Design. In addition to SUSE graduate programs, Stanford’s Department of Computer Science offers masters and doctoral specialization in Human-Computer Interaction, and SUSE faculty are active among the 50 faculty in the Stanford Media-X interdisciplinary research network, devoted to studies of interactive technology and people.

Applicants are required to provide the following materials: a cover letter describing research agenda and teaching experience, a curriculum vitae, up to three publications, and a list of three to five references with complete addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses. The committee will request letters of recommendation and additional supporting materials for finalists.
