For the last two years, APA master's student MELISSA EILER, has served on the Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters (LWV). This year, her primary project was to re-create the LWV website (www. leagueofwomenvoterssf.org) to include a range of highly accessible and pertinent information. She is also serving on a committee to strategize the expansion of the Smart Voter project (www.smartvoter.org), a web-based service which allows Bay Area voters to access customized, non-partisan voting information.

 

CARLA PUGH, a general surgeon and third year C&TE doctoral student, is conducting a research project at the School of Medicine that involves the evaluation of a simulator developed to help medical students learn specific physical examination skills. She recently received a $6,000 grant from the office of technology to build the stimulator. .

JENNIFER TIBERGHIEN, ICE doctoral candidate, is conducting fieldwork in Japan. She is researching the influence of international norms on sexual violence in Japan and has been doing participant observation in workshops and symposiums on sexual harassment and domestic violence. She presented her preliminary fieldwork results at an ICE conference in Tokyo this March.

 

Learning, Design, and Technology master's students, DAVID SLATER(right) and KATHY GRAVES, and Curriculum and Teacher Education master's candidate JAMES BEQUETTE (center) began internships winter quarter at Extempo, Inc., a Redwood Valley start-up. The three SUSE students are working on a two-quarter project that will help Extempo develop web-based interactive learning guides that will showcase the firm's foray into the education market.
