The M.A. and Ph.D. degrees combine university and school requirements for successful completion of their programs. All students have various degrees of flexibility to devise a program of study in conjunction with their faculty advisor and within the parameters of program requirements. The requirements for the M.A. degree include required core and methodology courses, area courses and pre-approved electives. Most programs also require a project or monograph. The requirements for the Ph.D. degree also include core, methodology and area courses. However, because of the research focus and length of doctoral study, students have more milestones to complete as part of their degree, including periodic review meetings. Students must consult their degree handbooks for specific program requirements and read the relevant sections on this website.
