What time does the ceremony take place?
The SUSE ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2008. The line-up for the procession will start at 12:00 p.m. - all graduates and faculty need to be on Serra Mall to line up at that time. The ceremony will go on for about an hour and then be followed by a reception, starting at around 2:00p.m.

Do I need tickets?
No. You do not need tickets for the Stanford ceremony or the SUSE ceremony.

How can I reserve seats?
The event staff will not reserve seats for you unless you have a guest who is in a wheelchair. If you or your guests have special needs, please email the Office of Academic Services at acadserv@suse.stanford.edu right away!
Please take note: If you arrive early and reserve seats, event staff may need to move you. Certain sections are reserved for the graduating class and wheelchair access.

Where do I rent my robes?
The Stanford Bookstore will be renting regalia to faculty and students. The deadline to order your cap and gown is April 28, 2008. Your order will be available for pickup at the Bookstore beginning June 6.

Where can I buy PhD regalia?
You can buy the high-quality Stanford cap and gown for PhD graduates from the Stanford Bookstore.

What can I give my family about Commencement?
Commencement packets will be available for you to pick up in early April from your program coordinator in the Office of Academic Services at SUSE. You will receive an email when the commencement packets are ready for you to pick up. Please direct your family to Stanford's Commencement website at http://commencement.stanford.edu for information specific to the Stanford ceremony and to the SUSE Commencement website at http://ed.stanford.edu/students/commencement.html for information specific to the SUSE ceremony.

How many guests can I bring?
There is no limit on the number of guests who can attend the Stanford ceremony at the Stadium and the SUSE ceremony.

Will there be food?
SUSE will have a reception directly following the SUSE ceremony. Hors d'oeuvres, champagne, lemonade and water will be served.

Where should I park?
Please see the maps at the Commencement website or the handout in your Commencement packet. If you are just attending the SUSE ceremony, you may be able to find parking fairly close to the site, as long as you arrive early. You can find parking along the Oval, Lomita Drive, Museum Way, Roth Way or Lasuen Street. There are designated parking lots along Campus Drive as well. If you have elderly guests, you can drop them off within 20 feet of the site by driving to the end of Lomita Mall and letting them out in front of Herrin Hall.
The Marguerite shuttles do not run on Commencement Sunday.

What services are available for my guests with special needs?
Sign language interpreters, assistive listening devices, accessible pathway information and temporary disabled parking permits are available to guests and family members attending commencement through the Diversity and Access Office. If you or a guest have special needs, please contact the the Office of Academic Services as soon as possible! May 23, 2008 is the deadline to request accessibility-related assistance. If you have questions, contact the Office of Academic Services or call the Diversity and Access Office at (650) 725-0326.

What is "walking through" the ceremony?
If you are unable to finish all the requirements for your degree by the end of Spring Quarter, you will not officially graduate or confer your degree, but you may take part in the graduation ceremony if you meet certain criteria. This status is commonly referred to as "walking." Doctoral students must have successfully defended in Spring Quarter in order to walk-through the ceremony. Students in the four-quarter master programs: ICE and LDT walk through the ceremony as well. Please contact your Program Officer for information and to submit your walk-through request.

Where is the SUSE ceremony?
The SUSE Ceremony is in the Oak Grove between the Oval and Herrin Hall. You can see it on the Stanford map between Lomita Drive and Palm Drive. See map.

Will there be a professional photographer at the SUSE ceremony?
No. There will be a Photo Area - a roped off section - to the left and right of the stage where family members can catch a shot of you coming off the stage with your diploma.

What do I do with my rented robe after the ceremony?
There will be drop off points around campus where you can drop-off your rented robe, or you can stop by the Stanford Bookstore to return it.

I won't attend the ceremony, how will I get my diploma?
When you apply to graduate in AXESS, it will ask you if you will attend the ceremony. Say "no" and then indicate what address you wish your diploma to be mailed to. If you have further questions about your diploma, please visit the Registrar's Office or call them at (650)723-2041.

What do we do if it rains?
The decision to use the rain plan will be made by 7:00 a.m. on Commencement Sunday. Signs will be posted on campus. Announcements will be made on all available radio stations and the Stanford telephone exchange (723-2300) will also be informed. Also, call SUSE's main phone number at (650) 723-2109, for a rain plan confirmation after 7:30a.m.
In case of rain, the University Ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. promptly at the Stanford Stadium. However, there will be no procession. Please see the University Commencement Ceremony website for more information.
