In response to a current lack of programs and pathways to support collaborative education research, this discussion will inform a recently launched multi-organizational effort to build formal training opportunities as a means to broaden participation in this type of research. While some evidence suggests that educational research conducted in collaboration with educators, families, and communities is more useful, impactful, and can ultimately support equitable outcomes for children, we know less about the learning that researchers, practitioners, and community members need to engage in to support such collaborative work, with few formal training opportunities in existence.

In this discussion, we will share more about this effort and the initial work that has taken place, including a landscape scan of formal training experiences and literature about the necessary skills and knowledge for practice, research, and community members to effectively engage in collaborative education research. We will invite participants’ input on the landscape study and host small group discussions to develop consensus around some new and existing ideas that will strengthen this work.
