Private sector investments in education that provide accessible, cost-effective ways to deliver knowledge and skills continue to accelerate innovation across the sector. From K-12 to higher and tertiary education to the workplace, how are leaders in education and business rethinking learning? This roundtable conversation features education and business alumni discussing the latest trends and their professional experiences in private equity and venture capital in education.

About the Speakers:

Federico Antoni, MBA ’04, (Moderator) is a lecturer in management at the Graduate School of Business and co-founder of Antoni Lelo de Larrea Venture Partners (ALLVP), Mexico’s first institutional early-stage venture capital fund.

Martin Ferraro, MBA ’11, is the managing partner at Edventures, the venture fund for the Hochschild Family Office. He previously worked as CEO in Takay, the first corporate-backed venture the Hochschild Group (HG) launched in 2019.

Carlos Degas Filgueiras, MBA ’04, is a former senior executive, serial entrepreneur, and investor. Currently, Degas is a partner at Bewater Ventures, a global investment firm with a focus in Series B transactions for tech-enabled companies.

Iona Szkurnik do Rio, MA ’14 is the founder of Education Journey, a startup focused on making innovation core in education, and co-founder of Brazil at Silicon Valley, a not-for-profit organization that fosters innovation and technology in Brazil.

Ximena Alavarado Trespalacios is currently in her second year of the MBA at Stanford, where she serves as Executive Chair of the International Committee and works on independent research in the K-12 field. She previously worked at Nexus Group, Peru’s largest private equity fund. 

Daniel J. Uribe is currently a joint degree student at the GSB and GSE and previously worked for multiple education ventures in Latin America, including ESCALA Educación, the Latin American Leadership Academy, the Alianza Educativa, and Eleva Educação.
