Camillia Matuk, Assistant Professor in the Educational Communication and Technology program at New York University (NYU)

The nature of collaboration is rapidly changing: Not only does technology allow increasingly open access to diverse sources of ideas, but the need to integrate diverse perspectives to solve complex problems is also becoming more apparent. How can we prepare learners to engage productively with others’ ideas? How can we support them in integrating these into meaningful understandings and solutions? In this talk, Camillia Matuk will describe investigations into opportunities for supporting collaborative inquiry learning. She will share insights from designing technology-enhanced learning environments to guide students’ encounters with peers’ ideas; and discuss explorations of learning within cross-role, cross-domain design collaborations. This talk will open discussion of issues in structuring collaboration within in and out-of-school contexts, between single and interdisciplinary domain areas, and across standards-aligned and interest-driven activities.

Camillia Matuk is Assistant Professor in the Educational Communication and Technology program at New York University (NYU). She earned a PhD in the Learning Sciences from Northwestern University, an MSc in Biomedical Communication from the University of Toronto, and a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Windsor. Prior to joining NYU, she was a postdoc with Marcia Linn at the University of California, Berkeley. Before entering academia, she was a medical illustrator and animator.
