Puzzling Knowledge: Moving through a Critical Research Trajectory in Teaching and Teacher Education

Perilous times consume contemporary schooling. Widening disillusionment points to the inability of schools to effectively meet the needs of all students, particularly historically underserved and marginalized groups of color. How might researchers and teacher educators intervene on this puzzling dilemma? In this presentation Dr. Keffrelyn Brown takes up this task by offering key elements from her on-going research trajectory concerned with the intersections of sociocultural knowledge, teaching and curriculum. She highlights the power of critical sociocultural knowledge, privileging it as a vital aspect in the work of teaching that requires embracing complexity, intentionality and uncertainty, deepening critical reflexivity, and the inclusion of race knowledge in teaching and teacher education.
