Patricia Martínez-Álvarez is an associate professor in the program in Bilingual/Bicultural Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research interests lie at the intersection of bilingualism biculturalism and critical disability studies. A long time inclusive bilingual education teacher, Dr. Martínez-Álvarez aims at advancing the field of inclusive bilingual education. To do this, she centers on equity in education around three main themes: (1) The exploration of the knowledge of bilinguals and expanding what counts in schools as language and content knowledge and practices; (2) The need for a concerted effort between emergent bilinguals with dis/abilities and the learning context; and, (3) Bilingual teacher education for inclusive classrooms.
