GSE Alumni Community Gathering, hosted by Katy Kavanaugh, MA '10

Join us for a film-inspired discussion on how we can embrace relationships with the foreign and use international cinema, shown in the film festival mode, to generate knowledge and learning. How do we react to what is new or foreign? How do we overcome resistance and engage and learn from situations that are new or even strange to us? And what are the tools that can help us and our students engage with the foreign in aspirational ways that foster a future of collaboration?

About Katy: Born and raised in San Francisco and rural Oregon, Kavanaugh has gained a unique and liberating knowledge of the world through international pursuits. At Stanford Graduate School of Education and the Hasso Plattner Institute for Design, she developed and tested a prototype to bring the world to learners with international cinema.

GSE alumni community gatherings are an opportunity for Graduate School of Education alumni to create and facilitate conversations and meet-ups for their fellow alumni. Share resources, network, and connect with the alumni community. Gatherings can focus on a topic, experience, your GSE cohort, or a gathering for a specific region or country.
