barup.mobi: The "rap game" in a game

Project by
Leonard Medlock, Demetric Sanders
Project Year
2011
Barup.mobi allows users to express themselves by generating tweet-like lyrics called tracks. Through social networking, users scaffold and model creative writing skills through rap battles, receive positive reinforcement through release and virtual sale of tracks, and understand financial concepts while building their reputation. As users generate tracks and win battles, they earn Respect Points leveling up from 'Rook' to 'Legendary' status, and Virtual Cash that can be used to acquire assets/liabilities from the Empire and Swag Stores. The most successful users will generate lyrics lauded by their peers, and manage their empires to the likes of a Jay-Z or Diddy.
