Many young women suffer from math anxiety that leads them to avoid math-related careers. Women hold only 24% of STEM jobs in the US. MathBuddy is a social math game designed to help young women associate math with the positive feelings of helping someone else. Through a texting-like interface, players converse and build rapport with digital avatars while tackling complex conceptual math questions that inspire curiosity and problem solving. Players can engage with math and make mistakes without social risk and judgment. Together with avatars, young women can build confidence in their math ability and overcome math anxiety.
