Leaders representing 18 school districts across 13 California counties have been selected for a new professional development program at Stanford that harnesses the expertise and learning of the university's graduate schools of business and education.

The inaugural class of the new Executive Program for Education Leaders reflects the diversity of the state's student population: districts represented include rural and urban and those with high populations of under-represented children.

The participants began the program with one week living, meeting and studying on the Stanford campus in July. They continue their professional development over the next year online and reconvene on campus for two additional weekends in the fall and spring.

The participating districts are:

  • Antioch Unified School District
  • Cambrian School District
  • Compton Unified School District
  • Fontana Unified School District
  • Hayward Unified School District
  • Jefferson Elementary School District
  • Los Banos Unified School District
  • Madera Unified School District
  • Oak Park Unified School District
  • Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District
  • Portola Valley School District
  • San Bernardino City Unified School District
  • San Francisco Unified School District
  • San Rafael City Schools
  • San Ramon Valley Unified School District
  • Sequoia Union High School District
  • Soledad Unified School District
  • Sunnyvale School District

The innovative program is offered by the Stanford Educational Leadership Initiative. The program is generously subsidized by both the Stanford GSE and GSB.
