Gap years - an intentional year “off” between high school and college to travel, volunteer, or gain work experience - are becoming increasingly popular among college-bound young adults in the US. Many of these "gappers" choose to participate in one of a growing number of formal, structured gap year programs now available. What are participants doing and learning on these programs? How do provider organizations structure the gap year experience, and towards what ends? How can university staff and faculty work with gap year providers to facilitate gappers transition to life on campus? How can we make the most of the experiences and skills they bring to campus?
Please join us for a lunch seminar with Abby Falik, a Stanford GSE alum and the founder and CEO of Global Citizen Year, a 10-month bridge year program that combines deep cultural immersion with formal leadership training. Global Citizen Year sends more than 150 Fellows to four different country destinations each year.
In her talk, "Reimagining Education: Launching a Generation of Global Citizens," Abby will share Global Citizen Year's history and vision as well as their pedagogical approach to international, experiential education and leadership development. Her talk will be followed by an open Q&A.
