Stanford University School of Education offers a variety of professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers through Teachers for a New Era, a landmark initiative designed to strengthen K-12 teaching by developing excellent teacher education programs. We provide a continuum of support for Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) graduates as well as K-12 teachers working in Bay Area schools, including professional certification, evening courses, and summer institutes.

Stanford for Teachers Continuing Studies Program
The Stanford for Teachers Program, a collaboration between the Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP), the Stanford Continuing Studies Program (CSP), and Teachers for a New Era (TNE), offers educators who are affiliated with STEP with the opportunity to enroll in Continuing Studies courses tuition-free. New to the program this year are a series of courses designed specifically for teachers. Continuing Studies courses are perfect for teachers; they delve into core disciplinary topics, they are taught by top scholars from across the university and K-12 schools, they meet in the evenings, and course requirements are designed with a teacher's full work schedule in mind. Teachers who are not eligible for the tuition waiver can still receive a 20% discount on Stanford Continuing Studies Program tuition. (http://www.stanford.edu/group/tne/csp.html)

Stanford Summer Teaching Institute
Educators affiliated with the Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) and its Partner Schools are eligible to attend the Stanford Summer Teaching Institute, an annual multi-day symposium focused on powerful teaching and school leadership and supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York's Teachers for a New Era initiative. Sessions explore methods of differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students in heterogeneous classrooms, curriculum development, and school reform. Institute workshops are taught through collaborations between Stanford and K-12 faculty from around the Bay Area. (http://www.stanford.edu/group/tne/ssti.html)

National Board Resource Center
The National Board Resource Center at Stanford (NBRC) is one of five regional centers established by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to support teachers earning their National Board Certification. NBRC convenes interested teachers from Northern California for monthly Saturday sessions and small coaching groups. Together, they view videotapes of teaching, analyze practice, study for subject matter assessments, and support each other in the development of their teaching and portfolios.
