Stanford University School of Education offers a variety of professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers through Teachers for a New Era (TNE), a landmark initiative designed to strengthen K-12 teaching by developing excellent teacher education programs. We provide a continuum of support for Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) graduates as well as K-12 teachers working in Bay Area schools, including professional certification, evening courses, and summer institutes.

Stanford for Teachers Continuing Studies Program
The Stanford for Teachers Program, a collaboration between STEP, TNE, and the Stanford Continuing Studies Program (CSP), offers educators who are affiliated with STEP an opportunity to enroll in Continuing Studies courses tuition-free. Continuing Studies courses are perfect for teachers; they delve into core disciplinary topics, they are taught by top scholars from across the university and K-12 schools, they meet in the evenings, and course requirements are designed with a teacher's full work schedule in mind. Teachers who are not eligible for the tuition waiver can still receive a 20% discount on CSP tuition. (http://www.stanford.edu/group/tne/CSP.htm)

Stanford Summer Teaching Institute
Educators affiliated with STEP and its Partner Schools are eligible to attend the Stanford Summer Teaching Institute, an annual multi-day symposium supported by TNE that focuses on powerful teaching and school leadership. Sessions explore methods of differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students in heterogeneous classrooms, curriculum development, innovative pedagogical practices, and school reform. Institute workshops are taught through collaborations between Stanford and K-12 faculty from around the Bay Area. (http://www.stanford.edu/group/tne/StanfordSummerTeachingInstitute.htm)

National Board Resource Center
The National Board Resource Center at Stanford (NBRC) offers support to teachers earning their National Board Certification, promotes teacher leadership, and improves the quality of teaching in California schools. Its successful support program is staffed by Board-certified teachers and is open to any eligible candidate. NBRC helps teachers and administrators learn about ways to use National Board certification to advance professional practice and promote teaching quality in schools by providing information and support at its sessions at Stanford and through related outreach throughout the Bay Area.
