Practical Advice

  1. Walk by the locations of the SUSE and University ceremonies a few days before commencement weekend in order to plan how you will get there and where you will park. On commencement day, drop off your guests before parking as you may not find parking very close.
  2. Arrive early for the best seating for your guests. Academic Services reserves seats in advance only for guests in wheelchairs or who need special access at the SUSE ceremony. Contact the SUSE Office of Academic Services ahead of time to make the necessary arrangements. Both ceremonies (Stanford's and SUSE's ceremony) are open seating.
  3. Be at the SUSE ceremony by 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.
  4. Plan for parking and arrive early. If parking around the Oval and in the surrounding areas (Lomita Dr., Roth Way, Museum Way) is difficult on Sunday, you may find parking in the parking structure on the corner of Campus Drive and Roth Way or in the Tresidder parking lot-- both are at easy distance to the Oval. The Marguerite Shuttles do not run that day!
  5. Dress comfortably. We suggest that your guests bring along a hat or a summer umbrella. The SUSE ceremony on Sunday is in an oak grove. Comfortable shoes are recommended; open-toed shoes may not be practical as there is debris from the trees.
  6. Pack a snack and eat a hearty breakfast. Water will be available all across campus that day. Champagne and hors d'oeuvres reception follows the SUSE ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Check the Frequently Asked Questions section for additional information.
