RILE Program Information

The challenges and success of children, schools, and communities are the result of dynamic forces that span life in school and out.

Social and cultural factors, economic disparities, racial and linguistic discrimination, and subtle psychological messages interact to shape teaching and learning in schools. Research designed to improve education must understand these intersecting forces.

RILE Conference 2018

The cross-area specialization in Race, Inequality, and Language in Education (RILE) brings together educators, economists, psychologists, sociologists, linguists, historians, anthropologists, and more to work across disciplinary lines. RILE holds as its primary objective training generations of scholars and practitioners to advance knowledge and improve opportunity for underserved learners.

Prospective students apply to RILE using the online application for doctoral programs and specify, under “Additional Academic Interests,” the area to which they wish their RILE program to be linked: Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education (CTE), Developmental and Psychological Sciences (DAPS), or Social Sciences, Policy, and Educational Practice (SHIPS).
