Rolando Toyos, MA ’89 (STEP), informs us that he recently authored the book Dry Eye Disease Treatment in the Year 2020. He explains his professional detour: “After the STEP program, I taught at Sequoia High School in Redwood City and coached boys basketball. However, I eventually went to medical school and completed an ophthalmology residency and have been practicing ophthalmology in Tennessee since 1998. I still draw upon my teaching background every day because I lecture, teach and mentor future doctors, educate my patients, and write educational books. I believe that my education training really comes into play when I write these books because I imagine myself teaching in a classroom when I write. I want readers to feel that they received a course in dry eye treatment and their final exam is feeling empowered to make informed decisions about their health care.”
