On Friday, October 26th, GSE alumni, faculty and students celebrated the Alumni Excellence in Education Award recipients in the CERAS 101 Learning Hall. Dean Dan Schwartz opened by describing the award program’s development, pioneered by a small group of GSE alumni who wondered how they might illuminate the many ways Stanford GSE alumni are advancing the field of education. Each of this year’s nominations was reviewed by at least two faculty members, and at least three alumni committee members. At the urging of Dean Schwartz, the Alumni Awards and Recognition Committee stood and was recognized by the audience.

The dean expressed his deepest appreciation to Angela and David Filo and the Yellow Chair Foundation who have championed this idea since its inception. Their commitment to educators, especially those who are working with underserved students, offers inspiration that extends far beyond the Stanford community.

The GSE proudly presented the 2018 recipients:

The Graduate School of Education hosted the Alumni Reunion Tailgate on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Taube Tennis Center Patio. More than 120 GSE alumni, students, faculty, and their guests gathered for a fun and festive tailgate prior to the Stanford Football Homecoming Game (Stanford v. Washington State). Alumni who registered early received a GSE beach mat and were welcomed into a convivial gathering as they reconnected with each other, students, and faculty. Dean Schwartz enjoyed conversations with alumni and students, and spoke about the mission and goals of the GSE: Improving Lives Through Learning.
