Dr. Francis Pearman
Professor Pearman's research focuses on how poverty and inequality shape the life chances of children, especially in rapidly changing cities. His current research examines issues related to gentrification and housing affordability and their impacts on children and schools. Throughout his research, Pearman combines rigorous quantitative methods with careful attention to how “big data,” including geo-coded crime statistics, business information, and local voting patterns, might open new sites of inquiry in the field of education. His research has been published in leading journals and media outlets, including American Educational Research Journal, Review of Educational Research, and Sociology of Education, The Economist and The Atlantic. In addition, he has received multiple awards and fellowships from the National Institutes of Health and the American Educational Research Association, among others.
