distinguished group of presenters will describe current work related to teacher
evaluation systems for English language learners. Speakers will include:

*       Joanne Urrutia, Deputy director, U.S.
Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition

*       Diane August, Managing Director, American
Institutes for Research

*       Susan O'Hara, Associate Professor and
Executive Director of the Stanford University Center to Support Excellence in
Teaching

*       Ann Jaquith, Senior Researcher at the
Stanford University Center to Support Excellence in Teaching

*       Robert Linquanti, Senior Researcher,
California Comprehensive Center, WestEd

The discussion will provide an
overview of specific issues to consider when evaluating teachers of ELLs. Diane
August and Joanne Urrutia will set the context for the webinar. Susan O'Hara
will identify instructional practices for developing the academic language of
ELLs in content area classrooms. In addition, she will describe an observation
protocol and corresponding materials in development that illustrate what these
practices look like at different levels of teacher enactment. Robert Linquanti
will discuss key challenges and opportunities in incorporating student data on
ELLs in teacher evaluation systems and will make recommendations for
strengthening assessments and how they are utilized in these systems.
