Exploring Teacher Leadership

CERAS 101

The National Board Resource Center and the California Teachers Association are sponsoring a day for teachers to explore leadership opportunities using the Teacher Leadership Competencies framework. Linda Darling-Hammond will give the opening remarks followed by breakout sessions in three rooms focused on instructional, policy, and association leadership opportunities. This event will expand the concept of teacher leadership and leave participants with a wealth of information and contacts. Executives from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards will join us in pinning our newest NBCTs as well as honoring Linda Darling-Hammond for her unwavering support of teacher excellence. To register, please go to http://nbrc.stanford.edu/node/273 .

The NBRC is excited to co-sponsor this day with the CTA. We have so many amazing teachers and leaders in education that are doing incredible things, but we rarely get a chance to network and learn about these great works.

Many teachers have asked what can I do?  This day will be an opportunity for you to explore the areas of teacher leadership that interests you.

There will be breakout sessions based on the three Teacher Leadership Competencies, a document created by the NEA, NBPTS, and the Center for Teacher Quality :

Policy Leadership: learning from experts to explore how to get involved in policy decisions

Instructional Leadership: Coaching, mentoring opportunities, developing community relationships

Association Leadership: Getting involved in your local union, learning about leadership opportunities
