With online learning now a major component of education at all levels, how can we -- as students, educators, and parents -- make the most of this unfamiliar learning environment?  Stanford Club of Pasadena is pleased to present an expert to chat with us on the topic, Dr. Tomohiro Hoshi PhD '09, Head of School of Stanford Online High School (OHS). With the move to virtual classrooms duirng the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Hoshi has been sought out by schools across the country to advise on their transitions to online learning. He is also working with Stanford's administrators and professors to advise on their online programs. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, OHS has launched a resources webpage and series of informative webinars to help educate brick-and-mortar schools on how to teach effective classes online.

Stanford Online High School was founded in 2006 as a three-year high school and now serves 7th through 12th graders living in over 20 time zones. The mission of OHS is to create a worldwide learning community of diverse, intellectually passionate students and teachers. Through vibrant seminars, the rigorous curriculum challenges students to reason analytically, think creatively, and argue critically. Since 2015, when it was named by Niche the 6th best private high school in the country and made waves as the sole online school in the group, OHS has been consistenly recognized as one of the top ten private schools in California and the country.

Dr. Hoshi earned his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Tokyo, his M.A. in Philosophy at Texas A&M, and his Ph.D. in Philosophy at Stanford University. After teaching courses on logic and philosophy at a number of places, including Stanford University, Dr. Hoshi joined OHS as a philsophy teacher in 2008. He became Director of Instruction in 2013 and has been Head of School since August 2016.
