Where is the field of Educational Technology going?

How can we ensure that educational technology is being developed to meet the needs of students and educators?

You are invited by EAST House to have a conversation about answers to these questions and more with six experts from industry, academia, and the education sector who work on developing and implementing educational technology. The event will be a panel for one hour followed by round table discussions.

Professor Karin ForssellGraduate School of Education

Karin Forssell, PhD, directs the Learning, Design, and Technology Master's Program in the Stanford Graduate School of Education. She studies the choices teachers make in learning about and using new digital tools. She teaches about the process of designing digital tools for effective learning.

Evan Marwell, EducationSuperHighway

Evan Marwell is founder and CEO of EducationSuperHighway, the leading non-profit focused on upgrading the Internet access in every public school classroom in America. Since its launch in 2012, EducationSuperHighway has helped connect 35 million students to the broadband they need for digital learning. In addition, the organization has secured commitments from 43 governors to upgrade their schools for the 21st century and $2.5 billion per year of federal funding to make these commitments a reality.

Bilal Musharraf, Edmodo

Bilal is the Director of Strategic Partnerships for Edmodo, a global education network that connects all learners with the people and resources they need to reach their full potential. He currently serves on the board of two nonprofit organizations, the Breakthrough Collaborative (www.breakthroughcollaborative.org) and Learning Equality (www.learningequality.org). Previously he was Dean of Translations at Khan Academy and VP Development for an international network of private schools.

Cameron White, NewSchools Venture Fund

Cameron White is an Associate Partner at NewSchools Venture Fund, supporting edtech entrepreneurs working to address the most pressing gaps in PreK-12 education. He was on the founding team at co.lab, an accelerator focused on game-based learning. Cameron began his career at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School in Washington, DC, where he helped to align out-of-school time programming with the school’s academic and social missions.

Dr. Molly Zielezinski, MBZ Labs

Dr. Molly B. Zielezinski holds a Ph.D. from the Stanford Graduate School of Education with a dual specialization in Learning Sciences & Technology Design and Curriculum & Teacher Education. She actively works on MBZ Labs, connecting research methods with education technology in practice. As a former teacher, she is deeply committed to identifying and interrogating innovative practices that support students' development of critical thinking, collaboration, and content knowledge.

Dr. Bror Saxberg, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

Dr. Bror Saxberg is the VP of Learning Sciences at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Within the Education part of CZI, he looks after how they apply learning science evidence and good evidence-gathering methods across the whole education ecosystem, to support improvements in learner success, especially for subgroups that have had the most challenges.  Dr. Saxberg has previously served as Chief Learning Officer for both Kaplan and K12.
