We have the honor of having Dr. Jennifer Calvert, Assistant Vice Provost for Strategy and Assessment, and Dr. Linda Prieto, Executive Director of Upward Scholars and Lecturer in the Chicanx/Latinx Studies at Stanford. They will share their educational journeys, how being first-gen influences their career trajectory, and how they’ve navigated academia and working in higher education.
Dr. Calvert serves as the Assistant Vice Provost for Strategy in the Vice Provost of Student Affairs office at Stanford University. She grew up in a small farming community in the mid-west. She was the first in her family to graduate from college when she completed her bachelor's degree in English and her Masters of Education in Counseling at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. She completed her PhD in Educational Leadership and Learning Technologies at Drexel University. Her research focus was on how leaders in student affairs units use data to drive their decision-making.
Dr. Prieto grew up working in the agricultural fields of the central San Joaquin Valley in Reedley, California. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Stanford, a Master’s degree in Education from Harvard, and her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Cultural Studies in Education and a Graduate Portfolio in Mexican American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. She currently sits on the Board of Voices College-Bound Language Academies and teaches on Curanderismo and Spirituality.
We look forward to having you all!
Lunch from Zareen’s will be provided.
This event is generously sponsored by the GSE Students’ Collaborative Learning Fund.
