RILE Speaker Series: "What's your Story?"

Please join us this Winter quarter for our annual Winter Quarter Speaker series. We'll be hosting cutting-edge research talks by leading scholars, offering valuable insights into the latest developments in our field.

In addition, we're launching the "What's Your Story" series, a series aimed at fostering connections between students and faculty. This will be an opportunity for you to discover the personal and academic journeys of your professors and colleagues, providing a unique perspective on what brought them to this work.  Our guest speaker will be our own Dr. Maria D. Valazquez.

Maria is an IDEAL Provostial Fellow/Academic Staff Researcher in the Stanford Graduate School of Education. Her research examines housing, educational opportunity, educational policy, and place. She draws on qualitative methods and uses an interdisciplinary framework to draw attention to the socially constructed nature of inequities in schools and school communities. Relatedly, her work considers the efforts parents, educators, and community members take to contest and disrupt inequities in schools and school communities towards creating transformative opportunities for youth. Maria holds a B.A. in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
