Stanford SFUSD Talk: What do design thinking and school boards have to do with equity and access in education?

CERAS LEARNING HALL

Commissioner Matt Haney was elected to the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education in 2012. He is the youngest member of the Board of Education, one of the only school board members in an urban school district in California under 35, and serves as the Chair of the Curriculum and Instruction Committee.

During his time on the Board of Education, Matt has passed landmark policies on school discipline, unaccompanied immigrant children, the prevention of gun violence, student nutrition, technology in schools, and student voice.

In 2013-2014, Matt served as a d.school fellow at the Stanford d.school.  In his talk, Matt will discuss his ideas for how design thinking can transform decision making in schools and school districts, particularly as it relates to student voice.
