Dr. Jill Biden has been an educator for more than three decades as a public high school English teacher, as a reading specialist and at a psychiatric hospital for adolescents. She currently teaches as a full-time English professor at a community college in Northern Virginia. Dr. Biden believes that community colleges are “one of America’s best kept secrets,” and has worked to underscore their role in creating the strongest, most educated workforce in the world. With the launch of the Biden Foundation, which advances opportunities for all people through educational programming and public policy analysis, Dr. Biden and her husband are continuing their commitment to higher education. Dr. Biden earned her BA from the University of Delaware, MA degrees from West Chester University and Villanova University and her EdD in education from the University of Delaware.

Jim Shelton, former Deputy Secretary of education under President Barack Obama, leads the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s education work, partnering with educators, communities, researchers, scientists and engineers to ensure that every student is ready for and contributing to an ever-changing world. He served as the program director for education at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation from 2003 to 2010 and holds a broad range of management, policy and programmatic roles aimed at expanding access to personalized learning experience. He earned his BA from Morehouse College and MA degrees in business administration and education from Stanford University.

Seating/Tickets: Tickets are required for this event. Each guest can request up to two complimentary tickets. The Will Call desk will open at 5:00 p.m. in front of Memorial Auditorium. Seating is general admission, first-come, first-served and subject to availability. Auditorium doors open at 5:15 p.m. If you are not in the venue by 5:50 p.m. your seat may be given to a non-ticket holder or to someone in the stand-by line.  If you ordered tickets and can no longer attend, please email the Stanford Ticket Office at ticketorders@stanford.edu to release your seat(s). The event is sold-out.  There is no waiting list.  A stand-by line will open at 5:00 p.m. in front of MemAud on May 9.

Guests will be prompted to turn off all cell phones, pagers and alarms.

All persons and bags are subject to search.

• No signs, flyers, banners or posters allowed inside the venue.
• No weapons or projectiles allowed inside the venue.
• No blow horns, noise makers, or amplified sound allowed inside the venue.
• No unauthorized photography or audio/video recording.
• Entry and re-entry at the discretion of event management.
• This event will be photographed and videotaped, but will not be available for future viewing.
• Attendee voluntarily agrees that Stanford University, its agents, officers, directors, employees, faculty, students, and volunteers are released by attendee from any claims incidental to the event.
• Entering the venue shall be deemed consenting to all the above conditions and any other conditions set by Stanford University at its events.
