My undergraduate and graduate degrees in journalism and media studies exposed me to educational issues faced by developing countries such as China. After graduating with an M.A in Communications from the London School of Economics, I worked in the Students Affairs office and participated in the entire admission process of two Chinese universities, during which I developed my research interests in the field of higher education.

The ICE MA Program provided an excellent opportunity for me to develop my research interests in internationalization of higher education. As an international student myself, I studied international students’ choices, expectations, and experiences for my MA paper. I enjoyed the thought and writing process of my MA paper under the insight and guidance of my advisor Prof. Francisco Ramirez, Program Director Prof. Christine Min Wotipka, and other cohort members.

Presenting my master’s research at the Annual Conference of the Comparative and International Education Society was definitely one of the highlights of this year. I am still involved with the study of international student mobility at Tsinghua Institute of Education in Beijing.

Furthermore, the GSE community exerts great effort to help students achieve their career goals. The EdCareers workshops, for example, offer useful resources for students to build their resume, enhance their professional skills, expand their connections, and seek internships and employment. I am so indebted to the GSE community, faculty members, and our cohort, for their guidance and support in so many ways.

I began my position upon graduation as a counselor on the Due West college counseling team based in Beijing. I heard about the job opening from the ICE/IEPA MA Alumni email list and am currently working with another ICE MA alumna in the office.
