Open Rank Faculty Position in History/Social Studies Education

The Stanford Graduate School of Education is seeking nominations and applications for a faculty member specializing in history/social studies education. The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment in the field, including a doctoral degree with a scholarly focus in the area of history/social studies education and/or the preparation of teachers for secondary history/social studies classrooms.

The person hired for this position will teach graduate level courses for both prospective researchers and secondary school teachers. They will also advise students and guide doctoral research in history/social studies education and related fields. Prior teaching experience in K12 classrooms preferred.

Applicants are required to provide:

  • a cover letter (short)
  • a research and teaching statement (no more than 3 pages)
  • curriculum vitae
  • three scholarly publications and/or well-developed papers
  • Applicants for Assistant rank positions should submit three names of references (complete with postal addresses, e-mail addresses phone numbers).  We will request letters immediately.
  • Applicants for Associate and Full Professor ranks should submit three names of references (also with complete contact information). We will request letters for a short list of finalists only.

Ph.D./Ed.D. or enrollment in a Ph.D./Ed.D. program with anticipated degree conferral by the time of appointment as Assistant Professor is required.

The expected base pay range for this position is:

  • Professor: $210k - $280k
  • Assoc. Professor: $160k - $189k
  • Asst. Professor: $140k - $153k

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
