Pakistan Giving Fund

Rabtt, a Pakistani non-profit that promotes critical-thinking skills among low-income students through mentor-led workshops, raises 25% of its total budget via individual donations. Despite a strong tradition of education philanthropy in Pakistan, donor networks are disjointed and weak making local donor engagement and dissemination of project information a resource-intensive task for organizations like Rabtt. This POLS talk examines one possible solution for organizations like Rabtt: developing a local online crowd-funding platform, which connects fragmented private donors to pre-screened high-impact education projects to facilitate responsible giving. Using insights from research on education philanthropy in the U.S, this project harnesses learning on altruism, transparency, impact and sustainability to promote evidence-based interventions and nurture informed donor choices over ad-hoc giving.
