Striving to be great: Efforts of the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula to meet the needs of its community

The Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula (BGCP) partners with school districts to engage at-risk youth in after school programs to develop the skills they need to succeed beyond high school. Given a high population of low-income English Language Learners in the community, BGCP faces challenges in its role supporting students’ academic progress. This Talk examines how BGCP can effectively support the development of academic attitudes in its members, especially in light of the research on academic mindsets and stereotype threats. This Talk also highlights the efforts of a non-profit organization's strategic thinking, as it works to better support students in the attainment of their life goals.
