Level Up Language Games

Today, millions of people are turning to technology to learn a foreign language; however, they often can’t transfer what they’ve learned in apps like Duolingo to real-world situations. Language learners need a way to practice language relevant to their personal goals in a meaningful, contextualized, and engaging way. Research has pointed to video games as one possible way to contextualize learning and engage students. Level Up Languages is the first gaming platform dedicated exclusively to language learning. Using Interactive Fiction, we contextualize language practice through engaging narratives and stories, and use principles of second language instruction to develop the core game mechanics.
