Widespread social isolation during the pandemic exacerbated existing trends of children’s declining mental health. Research shows that preventative social-emotional education leads to positive outcomes by equipping children with skills such as self-awareness and responsible decision-making. Unfortunately, schools are challenged by integrating SEL into existing subjects and routines without burdening teachers or sacrificing instructional time, and teachers say current SEL curriculum is not engaging enough. TinyTales is a digital application for children aged 4-8 that leverages storytelling and digital interactions to make social-emotional education engaging, accessible, and easily implementable. As learners make decisions for relatable characters, they learn healthy ways to deal with different emotions and situations.
