Stanford receives Investor Award from Redwood City Education Foundation

The university is honored for its support of Redwood City schools, and says it looks forward to establishing even deeper ties to the community.

Stanford has received this year’s Investor Award from the Redwood City Education Foundation, in recognition of the university’s pledge to the RCEF of $250,000 over the next five years.

The Investor Award honors companies for their substantial and long-term support of the RCEF and the Redwood City School District (RCSD), through gifts of time and funds. The school district includes Redwood City and portions of San Carlos, Menlo Park, Atherton, Woodside and incorporated areas near Redwood City. In the RCSD, the foundation is the only organization fundraising district-wide to support the school district’s K-8 students.

"Stanford University takes great pride in its continuing partnership with the City of Redwood City in support of the Redwood City Education Foundation," said Lucy Wicks, Stanford’s associate director of community relations. “The Stanford community values the work of the foundation in enriching the education experiences of Redwood City students. We look forward to establishing stronger ties with Redwood City and with community organizations.”

The award will be presented at this year’s Benefit for a Brighter Future on May 1, held at the Grove Café at Cañada College. The event raises funds to offer general music education and projects in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), arts and wellness areas. Stanford was the site of the first Benefit for a Brighter Future in 2007 and, said RCEF President Erika Pretell, “has been a regular and much appreciated sponsor of the event.”

Wicks added, “Redwood City is a wonderful community with strong educational values, and Stanford is proud to be a part of the city’s future.”
